SILICOSIS
Silicosis is a lung disease caused by repeated or an overexposure to crystalline silica — a fine sand dust — usually on the job. This disease cannot be reversed and there is no known cure, and it may continue to worsen even after the silica exposure ends. Silicosis is one of the oldest known workers’ compensation exposure injuries and kills people every year. The inhalation of these silica particles has been linked to lung cancer, bronchitis and tuberculosis, and other breathing and lung diseases.
